Teaching Assistant (Sports Background)

Ortus Recruitment is working with an ‘Outstanding’ primary school based in the Battersea location. Our partnered primary school seeks for a resilient Teaching Assistant and the successful candidate will join the school’s established SEN department, supporting a student with mild ASD in a 1:1 role. Your main responsibility will be to enhance the pupil’s learning either individually away from the class in sensory rooms and quiet areas of the school or as part of a group.

This Battersea-based school is a lovely modern building that was recently renovated and has great facilities to assist students. The school is almost at full capacity with 2 classrooms per year group, ranging from EYFS up to Year 6. The school operates on a set of shared values that emphasize cooperation and respect. Positivity, diversity, honesty, harmony, and friendship are fundamental to the pupils, staff, and parents at the school.

Main Duties and Responsibilities of a Teaching Assistant:

Support for Pupils:

  • Support pupils to make good academic progress, under the direction of the teacher and Inclusion leader
  • Set challenging and demanding expectations and promote self-esteem and independence
  • Implement group or 1:1 interventions to support pupils who have emotional or social barriers to learning
  • Establish constructive relationships with pupils, acting as a role model and setting high expectations
  • Promote the inclusion and acceptance of all pupils
  • Provide feedback to pupils in relation to progress and achievement under the guidance of the teacher

Support for Teachers:

  • Create and maintain a purposeful, orderly, and supportive environment, in accordance with lesson plans, and assist with the display of pupils’ work
  • Use strategies, under the direction of the teacher, to support pupils to achieve learning goals
  • Discuss with the teacher how learning activities are to be organised and what their own support role will be
  • Monitor pupils’ responses to learning activities and accurately record and feedback to the teacher as directed

Qualifications for a Teaching Assistant (Sports Background):

Desirable:

  • A background in Sports or Physical Education with experience working with students with Autism and Challenging Behaviour
  • Ability to inspire students and encourage participation through engaging and creative activities
