Job Description:
We are seeking a dedicated and compassionate SEN (Special Educational Needs) Teaching Assistant to join a supportive and inclusive school in Ealing. The successful candidate will work closely with teachers and other professionals to support the academic and personal development of students with special educational needs, ensuring that they can access the curriculum and participate fully in school life.
Key Responsibilities:
- Provide 1:1 and group support to students with a range of SEN, including autism, ADHD, dyslexia, and emotional and behavioural difficulties.
- Assist the class teacher in implementing tailored learning plans, adapting resources to meet individual student needs.
- Support students in developing key skills such as communication, social interaction, and independent learning.
- Assist with personal care when required (e.g., feeding, toileting) and promote a safe and positive learning environment.
- Monitor and record student progress, providing feedback to the teacher and SENCo.
- Work collaboratively with other professionals, such as speech therapists and educational psychologists, to support students’ development.
- Help manage challenging behaviour and implement behaviour support strategies where needed.
- Ensure that students’ emotional and social well-being is a priority, fostering confidence and a positive self-image.
- Participate in relevant training and development opportunities to stay up to date with best practices in SEN support.
Person Specification:
- Experience: Prior experience working with children with special educational needs, either in a school or care setting, is essential.
- Qualifications: Level 2 or 3 Teaching Assistant qualification or equivalent is desirable, but not essential if the candidate has relevant experience.
- Skills:
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
- Strong organizational and time-management skills.
- Ability to build positive relationships with students, staff, and parents.
- Patience, empathy, and the ability to stay calm under pressure.
- Understanding of the needs of children with SEN and how to support them effectively.
