Ortus Recruitment is excited to partner with a vibrant, welcoming primary school in Streatham who is looking for an experienced Learning Support Assistant to join their team. You will play a vital role in supporting a young pupil with Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) in the Reception Class on a 1:1 basis, helping them to thrive both academically and socially in a nurturing environment.

About the Role:

As a Learning Support Assistant, your primary responsibility will be to support a Reception pupil with ASD on a 1:1 basis. You will work closely with the class teacher and the SENDCO to implement tailored learning strategies that ensure the pupil has the support they need to succeed. Your role will also involve assisting with general classroom activities and fostering an inclusive, supportive environment for all students. This is an excellent opportunity to make a meaningful impact on a child’s educational experience while working in a dynamic and supportive school.

The Ideal Candidate:

We are looking for a dedicated and compassionate individual who is committed to making a positive difference in the life of a child with special educational needs. The ideal candidate will have:

  • Experience working with children with ASD: Previous experience working in an education setting with children on the autism spectrum is highly desirable.
  • Strong understanding of autism and SEN: You should be able to adapt teaching methods and approaches to suit the unique learning style of the pupil.
  • Patience, empathy, and resilience: Working with children who have ASD can be challenging, but also incredibly rewarding. Your ability to stay calm and positive will be key to your success.
  • Team player: You will work closely with the class teacher and other support staff, so strong communication and teamwork skills are essential.
  • A genuine passion for working with young children: A love for early years education and a desire to help every child reach their full potential is a must.
  • Relevant qualifications (desirable but not essential): A Level 2 or 3 qualification in Supporting Teaching and Learning or similar would be an advantage, but not a requirement.

Why Join Us?

  • Supportive and collaborative team: You will be part of a passionate team of professionals who work together to ensure every child’s success.
  • Professional development: The school is committed to the continuous professional development of its staff, with plenty of opportunities for further training.
  • A welcoming environment: The school has a warm, inclusive atmosphere, and you will feel valued as a key part of the team.
  • Opportunity for impact: Your role will make a lasting difference in the life of a child, helping them to build the skills and confidence to succeed in school and beyond.

If you are excited about the opportunity to make a difference and have the skills and passion required for this role, we would love to hear from you!
