Graduate SEN Assistant
Ortus Recruitment is partnering with an ‘Outstanding‘ special school located in Vauxhall, London, to recruit a passionate and motivated Graduate SEN Assistant. This vibrant and dynamic school caters for students aged 7 to 19 with severe learning difficulties and/or autism, offering a supportive, inclusive environment where empathy, compassion, and diversity are at the heart of everything they do.
As part of the school’s expert team, you will play a pivotal role in helping students thrive, working with small class sizes of 6 to 9 children as well as providing 1:1 support. You’ll also have the opportunity to work alongside a range of specialists, including speech and language therapists and occupational therapists, ensuring each student’s needs are met in a holistic way.

What You’ll Be Doing:
- Supporting small groups of students in a classroom setting, as well as providing 1:1 support to individual pupils.
- Assisting with the delivery of the curriculum and working alongside teachers and other professionals to tailor learning to each child’s needs.
- Helping students with personal care as required, ensuring they are comfortable and engaged throughout the school day.
- Engaging with the school’s therapeutic services, including speech and language therapy and occupational therapy, to support student progress.
- Contributing to the school’s values of tolerance, empathy, and compassion in everything you do.

What We’re Looking For:
- A Graduate with a background in Education, Psychology, Care, Drama, or a related field (ideal but not essential).
- Passion for working with children who have SEN, particularly those with autism and severe learning difficulties.
- A can-do attitude and a willingness to go above and beyond to support students’ emotional and educational needs.
- A flexible, proactive, and patient approach, able to adapt to the needs of individual students and the classroom.
- Experience with non-verbal communication methods (e.g., Makaton, PECS) is desirable but not required – a willingness to learn is essential.
- The ability to work collaboratively within a supportive team and communicate effectively with staff and parents.
Working Hours:
Monday to Friday, 8:30 am to 4:00 pm.
