Graduate SEN Teaching Assistant
Ortus Recruitment is pleased to partner with a well-regarded school in Gipsy Hill, London, in search of a highly motivated Graduate SEN Teaching Assistant. This is an exceptional opportunity for graduates who are passionate about working with children with special educational needs, providing the chance to make a meaningful impact while developing professionally in the field of education.
As a Graduate SEN Teaching Assistant, you will play a crucial role in supporting students aged 3-11 who have various SEN, including autism, ADHD, and learning disabilities. Your responsibilities will range from providing one-on-one support during lessons to assisting with students’ personal development, ensuring that they receive the guidance and care necessary to thrive academically and socially. You will work closely with a dedicated team of professionals, including teachers, the Special Educational Needs Coordinator (SENCO), and external specialists.
Key Responsibilities:
- Provide tailored support to students with SEN, both in individual and small group settings
- Assist in the delivery of lessons and help students with specific learning tasks
- Support students during breaks and transitions, ensuring their safety and well-being
- Help manage classroom behaviour and implement strategies to support students with challenging behaviours
- Contribute to the development and implementation of personalised learning plans
- Work closely with the SENCO and other staff members to track student progress and adjust support as needed

What We Are Looking For:
- A degree in a relevant field (Psychology, Education, SEN, etc.)
- Experience working with children or young adults with special educational needs is desirable but not essential
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to build rapport with students and staff
- A proactive and empathetic approach to working with children, with a focus on promoting their independence and confidence
- A valid DBS registered on the update service (or willingness to obtain one)
- The ability to commit to a full-time role for a minimum of 2-6 months
