SEMH Learning Support Assistant
Ortus Recruitment is working in partnership with a well-regarded primary school in Battersea to recruit a dedicated and experienced Behaviour Support Teaching Assistant for a full-time, long-term position.
We are seeking a highly motivated and compassionate individual to provide essential 1:1 support to a Key Stage 1 pupil with Social, Emotional, and Mental Health (SEMH) needs. As part of the school’s dedicated support team, you will work closely with the child both inside and outside the classroom, offering guidance, mentorship, and tailored support to help them thrive academically and socially.
Key Responsibilities:
- Provide 1:1 support to a pupil with SEMH needs, both inside the classroom and during outdoor activities.
- Effectively manage and support the pupil’s challenging behaviour.
- Encourage and facilitate the pupil’s learning and development, promoting positive behaviour and academic progress.
- Collaborate with the Class Teacher in the planning and delivery of lessons to meet the needs of the pupil.
- Assist in the implementation of Behaviour Support Plans and strategies.
What We Are Looking For:
- Previous experience working with children in Key Stage 1, particularly those with challenging behaviour.
- Proven experience in managing and supporting pupils with SEMH and behavioural needs within an educational setting.
- A confident, adaptable, and empathetic individual with the ability to remain calm under pressure and respond to challenging situations effectively.
- Strong communication skills and the ability to work collaboratively with teaching staff, parents, and other professionals.
- A valid DBS check registered with the online update service (or willingness to apply for one).
