Ortus Recruitment is currently supporting a number of mainstream primary schools across South West London who are seeking enthusiastic and committed graduates to join their teams as Teaching Assistants. This is a fantastic opportunity to build valuable experience in child development, behaviour support, and inclusive education—ideal for those considering future careers in education, psychology, or mental health.

The Role:

As a Teaching Assistant, you’ll be working directly with pupils aged 5–11 who may have additional needs such as:

• Social, Emotional and Mental Health (SEMH) challenges
• Autism Spectrum Condition (ASC)
• Speech and Language Difficulties
• Behavioural needs requiring additional 1:1 support

Your role will include supporting pupils in the classroom, delivering structured activities, and helping to create a positive learning environment. You’ll work closely with teachers, school SENCOs and, where applicable, external professionals to deliver tailored support.

Ideal Candidates Will Have:

• A degree in Psychology (or related field)
• A genuine interest in child development, education, or mental health
• Strong interpersonal skills and emotional resilience
• Some experience working with children or young people (in any setting—voluntary, academic, or paid)
• A proactive and empathetic approach to supporting individual needs
