Learning and Behaviour Mentor
Ortus Recruitment is working in partnership with a vibrant and inclusive mainstream primary school in Southfields, currently seeking a Learning and Behaviour Mentor. This is a fantastic opportunity for a passionate and experienced individual to make a meaningful impact on the lives of pupils aged 3–11 who may face social, emotional or behavioural challenges in their learning journey.
About the Role:
As a Learning and Behaviour Mentor, you will play a key role in promoting positive behaviour and supporting pupils to overcome barriers to learning. You will work both 1:1 and in small groups, supporting pupils who may find emotional regulation, safe play, or classroom engagement more difficult.
You will collaborate closely with teachers, support staff, and the school’s wellbeing team to create a consistent, supportive environment that nurtures each child’s personal development. This role also involves regular contact with families and carers to ensure a joined-up approach to behavioural support and progress.
Key Responsibilities:
- Deliver targeted support to pupils with behavioural and emotional needs, both inside and outside the classroom;
- Help implement, monitor and review individual behaviour plans in collaboration with school staff;
- Encourage positive behaviour, engagement, and emotional resilience in pupils across Early Years, KS1 and KS2;
- Foster strong, respectful relationships with pupils, staff, and families;
- Provide practical and emotional support to help children navigate their school day;
- Liaise with teaching teams and leadership to share insights and contribute to whole-school wellbeing strategies.
The Ideal Candidate Will:
- Have previous experience supporting children with SEMH (social, emotional, and mental health) needs;
- Be a confident communicator, able to build trust with pupils and adults alike;
- Stay calm under pressure and respond effectively to challenging behaviour;
- Be adaptable, patient, and solution-focused in a dynamic school environment;
- Demonstrate a strong commitment to safeguarding and inclusive education;
- Have experience in school or youth support settings (desirable but not essential).
What’s On Offer:
- A supportive and welcoming school environment;
- The chance to work with an experienced and forward-thinking pastoral team;
- Ongoing training and CPD opportunities through Ortus Recruitment;
- Weekly pay with competitive daily rates;
- A fulfilling role where you can genuinely make a difference in pupils’ lives;
- Convenient location with strong transport links in and around Southfields.
If you’re driven to support young learners and passionate about behaviour and emotional wellbeing in education, we’d love to hear from you.
