Ortus Recruitment is currently working in partnership with a fantastic mainstream primary school in Brixton, who are seeking a compassionate and committed SEN Teaching Assistant to support a child with autism on a 1:1 basis. This is a full-time, long-term role offering the chance to make a genuine impact on a pupil’s educational journey by providing individualised support within a mainstream classroom setting.

The Role:

• Working closely with a child diagnosed with autism, supporting them 1:1 throughout the school day
• Encouraging engagement, social development, and access to the curriculum
• Assisting the class teacher with differentiation and classroom routines
• Supporting the child’s communication and emotional regulation needs
• Implementing behaviour strategies and following individual education plans (IEPs)
• Helping to foster inclusion and independence within the classroom
• Providing occasional personal care if needed

What We’re Looking For:

• Experience supporting children with autism or other special educational needs
• A patient, nurturing, and proactive attitude
• Good communication skills and the ability to work collaboratively with staff and parents
• Flexibility to adapt to the child’s changing needs and learning style
• Previous experience in a primary school setting is highly desirable
