Ortus Recruitment is working closely with a welcoming and inclusive mainstream primary school in Brixton that is seeking a committed and experienced 1:1 SEN Teaching Assistant to start immediately. This is a full-time, long-term role supporting a child in Year 4 with non-verbal autism. The school is looking for someone who is patient, proactive, and passionate about supporting pupils with additional needs.

The Role:

• Supporting a Year 4 pupil with non-verbal autism on a 1:1 basis
• Working under the direction of the class teacher and SENCo to implement individual learning strategies
• Creating a safe, structured, and supportive environment to help the pupil engage in learning and school life
• Encouraging communication, independence, and emotional regulation through consistent routines and tailored support
• Collaborating with school staff and external professionals to ensure the pupil’s needs are met

The Ideal Candidate Will:

• Have previous experience supporting children with autism or other special educational needs
• Be patient, empathetic, and consistent in their approach
• Have strong communication skills and the ability to work closely with teaching staff and families
• Be proactive and adaptable in a classroom setting
• Have a valid DBS on the Update Service or be willing to apply for one
