ASC Teaching Assistant

Ortus Recruitment are working with a primary school in Crystal Palace to recruit a ASC Teaching Assistant. This is a fantastic opportunity to work closely with children on the autism spectrum, providing essential support for both their academic and social development. The successful candidate will have a strong understanding of Autism and the skills to implement tailored support strategies.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Provide direct support to Autistic children in a mainstream classroom and tailored learning environment.
  • Support the delivery of a personalised curriculum, focusing on academic, social, and emotional development.
  • Collaborate with the class teacher and SENCO to create and implement Individual Education Plans (IEPs).
  • Use behaviour management strategies to promote positive behaviour and emotional regulation.
  • Encourage communication, social interaction, and independence in and out of the classroom.

Essential Criteria:

  • Team Teach trained or similar qualification in managing challenging behaviours. (desirable, not essential)
  • Experience working with children with Autism or similar special educational needs.
  • Knowledge of creating and implementing individualised learning plans.
  • Strong organisational and communication skills.
  • An enhanced DBS check (or willingness to apply).
