Ortus Recruitment is delighted to offer a fantastic opportunity for a committed KS1 Classroom Assistant to join a welcoming mainstream primary school in Wandsworth, commencing January 2026. The successful candidate will be working closely with a child in a Year 2 class who displays challenging behaviour, as well as supporting wider classroom activities. The school is arranging trials throughout next week, and this role will be full-time for the right person.

Please note: You must be available to trial immediately and have no notice period. A fully enhanced Child Workforce DBS on the Update Service is required, or you must be willing to complete one promptly.

Requirements

To be considered, you will need:

• An Enhanced Child Workforce DBS on the Update Service (or willingness to apply)
• Two relevant childcare-related references
• Recent graduate or experienced childcare professional
• Minimum Grade C/4 in GCSE English and Maths
• Full-time availability, Monday–Friday (8:30am–4:00pm)

We also welcome applicants with higher-level qualifications or relevant training in education or childcare.

Ideal Candidate

We are looking for someone who:

• Has experience working with children (e.g. coaching, tutoring, nannying)
• Brings a positive, proactive attitude and a genuine passion for supporting young learners
• Can build strong relationships with staff and pupils
• Is able to start immediately and commit to a long-term role

Responsibilities

In this role, you will:

• Provide 1:1 support to a child in Year 2 and assist with general classroom duties
• Deliver targeted interventions to help the child progress academically and socially
• Support the class teacher with tasks such as marking, reading diaries, and classroom organisation
