Ortus Recruitment is partnering with respected mainstream primary schools in the Brixton Hill area to appoint committed SEN Teaching Assistants for a January 2026 start. We are seeking caring and proactive individuals who can support pupils with a variety of additional needs, including autism, ADHD, and complex learning difficulties.

Role Overview

As an SEN Teaching Assistant, you will help pupils access learning, build confidence, and participate fully in school life. Your responsibilities will include:

• Providing tailored communication, physical, and learning support based on individual pupil needs
• Assisting students during lessons as well as in extracurricular activities
• Working collaboratively with class teachers and the SENCO to deliver personalised support strategies
• Helping plan and deliver engaging learning activities
• Supporting pupils’ social, emotional, and cognitive development by removing barriers to learning
• Ensuring the safety and wellbeing of pupils, including offering personal care when required
• Contributing to target setting, attending review meetings, and sharing observations of pupil progress
• Recording and monitoring progress in line with school systems

Requirements

• Experience supporting children or young people with SEND (e.g., autism, ADHD, or high-needs support)
• Background in education, care, or support work
• Willingness to carry out personal care duties such as toileting, changing, or peg feeding
• Availability for interview ahead of a January 2026 start
• Right to Work in the UK and an Enhanced Adult/Child DBS on the Update Service (or dated within the last 3 months)
