Ortus Recruitment is excited to be working with a welcoming and well-established mainstream primary school in Tooting, who are seeking a dedicated 1:1 Classroom Assistant to join their team from January 2026. This role involves supporting a Year 5 pupil with an EHCP, helping them access learning, develop confidence, and engage positively in the classroom environment.

About the Role

As a 1:1 Classroom Assistant, you will:

• Work closely with a Year 5 pupil who has an EHCP, supporting them throughout lessons and school activities
• Adapt tasks, resources, and instructions to help the pupil access learning
• Encourage independence, emotional regulation, and social participation
• Collaborate with the class teacher, SENCO, and wider support staff
• Help create an engaging learning environment that promotes curiosity, resilience, and confidence
• Build a trusting relationship with the pupil, providing calm, consistent, and encouraging support
• Be flexible, proactive, and confident working within a busy primary classroom
• Ensure all safeguarding and behaviour policies are followed

About You

We are looking for someone who:

• Has experience working with primary-aged pupils
• Ideally has supported children with additional needs, behaviour challenges, or EHCP requirements
• Displays patience, empathy, and strong communication skills
• Can work collaboratively with teachers and parents
• Has an up-to-date Enhanced DBS (or willingness to obtain one)
• Is reliable, professional, and committed to helping children succeed
• Can provide an up-to-date CV and references

Candidate Requirements

• Previous classroom or school-based support experience (essential)
• Understanding of SEN support and the needs of pupils with EHCPs
• Ability to adapt to changing needs and provide differentiated support
• Good knowledge of safeguarding procedures
• Relevant childcare or education qualifications (advantageous but not essential)

Role Details

• Full time, Monday–Friday
• 8:30am–4:00pm
• January 2026 start
