Location: Deptford
Contract: Full-time, long-term (Monday to Friday, 8:30am–4:00pm)
Pay: £89–£105 per day (dependent on experience)

Ortus Recruitment is currently seeking a Primary Learning Support Assistant to join one of our partner primary schools in the London Borough of Lewisham. This role involves supporting the head teacher and pupils within the classroom, helping to promote children’s learning, development, and overall wellbeing. The ideal candidate will have a genuine passion for working with young children in an educational environment.

Key Responsibilities

• Work closely with the head teacher, providing classroom support as required
• Supervise and support pupils, particularly those with special educational needs, ensuring their safety and access to learning activities
• Build strong, positive relationships with pupils and engage with them according to their individual needs
• Encourage pupils to participate in teacher-led activities and interact positively with their peers
• Provide feedback on pupils’ progress and achievements when directed by the head teacher
• Develop and maintain positive relationships with parents and pupils
• Deliver 1:1 support to pupils who require additional assistance

Requirements

• A strong commitment to supporting children’s emotional, social, and mental wellbeing
• Experience working with SEN pupils is desirable
• Ability to build effective relationships with teachers, pupils, and parents
• Previous experience working with children
• A patient, sensitive, and dedicated approach to supporting young learners
