Key Stage 1 Classroom Assistant
Location: Lewisham
Contract: Full-time (Monday to Friday, 8:30am–4:00pm)
Pay: £89–£105 per day
Start Date: Immediate
Ortus Recruitment is seeking a Key Stage 1 Classroom Assistant to support the head teacher and pupils within a primary school setting in Lewisham. The role focuses on supporting children’s learning and development, and we are looking for someone with previous experience working with young children in a primary or nursery environment.
Role Responsibilities
- Teaching support: Assist teachers with planning and delivering learning activities and provide feedback on pupil progress
- Pupil support: Work with individual pupils and small groups, including supporting children with special educational needs
- Classroom preparation: Help set up learning materials and maintain a tidy, organised classroom environment
- Administrative duties: Carry out tasks such as photocopying, filing, and displaying pupils’ work
- Parental communication: Build positive relationships with parents and maintain regular communication regarding pupils’ needs and progress
- Health and safety: Monitor health and safety procedures, ensure equipment is used and stored correctly, and ensure pupils are cared for appropriately
- Wellbeing and inclusion: Promote a safe, inclusive, and supportive classroom environment that supports pupils’ wellbeing
- Lunchtime and play support: Assist during lunchtime and supervise pupils during play activities
Requirements
- A strong commitment to supporting children’s emotional, social, and mental wellbeing
- Face-to-face experience working with SEN pupils
- Previous experience working with children in a classroom setting
- Willingness to work with Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS) pupils
- A patient, caring, and dedicated approach to supporting children
