Ortus Recruitment is working in partnership with a welcoming primary school in Nunhead that is looking for a 1:1 Teaching Assistant to join their supportive team. This role involves providing dedicated support to a pupil who requires additional guidance to help them succeed both academically and socially within the classroom.

About the Role

As a 1:1 Teaching Assistant, you will work closely with a specific pupil throughout the school day, providing personalised support to help them remain engaged and confident in their learning. That child may have SEN, please bear in mind we look for candidates who are OPEN to working in both a Mainstream & SEN Specialist Primary school.

Your responsibilities will include:

• Providing individual support to a pupil on a 1:1 basis, helping them access lessons and classroom activities.
• Assisting the class teacher in adapting learning materials and tasks to suit the pupil’s needs.
• Encouraging positive behaviour, confidence, and independence in the classroom.
• Supporting the pupil with both academic tasks and social development.
• Working collaboratively with teachers and SEN staff to ensure the pupil receives the best possible support.

This role is ideal for someone interested in pursuing a career in education, psychology, or child development, as it offers valuable hands-on experience supporting a child’s learning journey.

The Ideal Candidate

We are looking for a Teaching Assistant who is supportive, patient, and motivated to help children thrive.

The successful candidate will ideally have:

• Experience working 1:1 or in small groups with children.
• Experience supporting pupils with Special Educational Needs (SEN) such as ASD, ADHD, or learning difficulties (desirable).
• A genuine passion for helping children develop and succeed.
• Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
• The ability to remain calm, adaptable, and positive when supporting children with different needs.
