Teaching Assistant

Ortus Recruitment is proud to be working in partnership with a welcoming and inclusive mainstream primary school in Brixton, who are seeking a dedicated Teaching Assistant to join their team for the remainder of the academic year. The successful candidate will play a vital role in supporting pupils, teachers, and parents to create a positive and engaging learning environment where children can thrive academically and socially. Key Responsibilities

Learning Support

  • Support pupils’ learning through the delivery of targeted learning programmes, maintaining high expectations while encouraging independence and confidence
  • Promote inclusion by supporting pupils to engage, interact, and collaborate with their peers
  • Work closely with the SENCo and class teachers to assess individual needs and contribute to Individual Education Plans (IEPs)
  • Adapt and create resources to support pupils with EAL and SEND, ensuring they can safely access the curriculum
  • Support the implementation of additional services such as speech and language or physical therapy programmes
  • Provide 1:1 and small group support, including leading booster and intervention sessions to address learning gaps
  • Observe, record, and report on pupil progress to support ongoing assessment
  • Assist in preparing classroom materials and displays to enhance learning environments
  • Support whole-class teaching and provide cover when required
  • Use effective behaviour management strategies in line with school policies to support positive learning outcomes
  • Support pupils’ learning beyond the classroom, including in ICT suites or the school library

Support for the School

  • Supervise pupils during break times, lunchtimes, and transitions, ensuring their safety and wellbeing
  • Provide general pastoral care and emotional support to pupils
  • Accompany staff and pupils on school trips and extracurricular activities, taking responsibility for groups under teacher guidance

Additional Responsibilities

  • Promote and safeguard the welfare of all children and young people at all times
  • Ensure compliance with school policies, including data protection procedures
  • Communicate effectively with colleagues, parents, and external professionals with professionalism and sensitivity
  • Contribute positively to the wider school community and support the sharing of good practice
  • Undertake any other reasonable duties as directed by senior staff
