Teaching Assistant – Performing Arts Background

Ortus Recruitment is working in partnership with an outstanding mainstream primary school in Wandsworth seeking a creative, enthusiastic, and proactive Teaching Assistant to join their team on a full-time basis from September 2026. The Role

As a Teaching Assistant, you will support pupils across the primary age range, working closely with teachers to create an engaging and inclusive learning environment. Your performing arts background will be a valuable asset in helping children develop confidence, communication skills, creativity, and a love of learning.

Responsibilities will include:

  • Supporting pupils in the classroom and during learning activities.
  • Delivering one-to-one and small-group interventions.
  • Assisting children with varying learning needs, including pupils with Special Educational Needs (SEN).
  • Helping to promote positive behaviour and engagement in lessons.
  • Supporting creative learning opportunities and extracurricular activities.
  • Building positive relationships with pupils, staff, and parents.
  • Encouraging children’s social, emotional, and academic development.

The Ideal Candidate

We are looking for someone who:

  • Holds a degree in Performing Arts, Drama, Music, Dance, Theatre Studies, or a related subject.
  • Has experience working with children through schools, tutoring, coaching, youth work, holiday clubs, theatre groups, or similar settings.
  • Is confident supporting pupils both individually and in small groups.
  • Has a positive, patient, and adaptable approach.
  • Is comfortable supporting children with additional needs and varying abilities.
  • Demonstrates excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Is reliable, committed, and eager to contribute to school life.
