The Role
We are currently seeking a compassionate and enthusiastic Behaviour Support Mentor to join a friendly primary school in Sydenham.
This rewarding role involves supporting pupils who require additional behavioural, emotional and learning support, helping them to engage positively within the classroom and reach their full potential.
The successful candidate will have a genuine passion for working with children and be confident supporting pupils on both a one-to-one basis and in small groups.
Applicants must be open to working with pupils with Special Educational Needs (SEN) in both mainstream and specialist primary school settings.
Key Responsibilities
- Support the class teacher in delivering engaging learning activities.
- Provide one-to-one and small group support for pupils with additional behavioural and learning needs.
- Promote positive behaviour and encourage emotional, social and academic development.
- Build positive relationships with pupils, staff and parents.
- Help prepare learning resources and maintain an organised classroom environment.
- Assist with administrative tasks, including photocopying, filing and recording pupil progress where required.
- Ensure the safety, wellbeing and safeguarding of all pupils.
- Encourage teamwork, confidence and positive social interaction through structured activities.
- Be a positive role model, providing encouragement, consistency and emotional support throughout the school day.
Requirements
- A genuine passion for supporting children and young people.
- A commitment to promoting children’s emotional, social and mental wellbeing.
- Previous experience working with children (school, nursery, youth work or similar).
- Experience supporting children with SEN is desirable but not essential.
- Excellent communication and relationship-building skills.
- A patient, caring and resilient approach.
