Teaching Assistant

A school located in Morden is looking for a teaching assistant who is highly educated and eager to help children. The school has a friendly environment and hard working teachers who always put the children needs first. The school is in a reliable location, seen as it is close to public transport which makes it easier to commute too. The environment of the school is hands on meaning that teachers are always finding ways to make lessons more engaging for the children. Furthermore, the school has excellent facilities for children with SEN, which makes it easier for the children to engage and understand the lesson.

Your role:

If you are accepted for this role you will be expected to take small groups of children, who have difficulty learning, outside of the classroom and work closely with them trying to improve their numeracy and literacy skills. Furthermore you will be heling teachers prepare for lessons by handing out work books, work sheets, and making sure all the equipment is ready for the children to use. You should have the ability to keep record of what progress each student is making.

In addition, you will have specific responsibilities, such as working with a student in a year 3 class with mild Autism. This role will include finding ways to make teaching engaging, seen as this student has difficulty focusing for a long period of time. Moreover, you will be working one to one with this student trying to support them emotionally and mentally, so they feel confident expressing how they are feeling throughout the day.

Skills needed for this role:

  • Ability to be patient with students that take longer to understand the lesson.
  • Good literacy and numeracy skills
  • Excellent communication skills
  • Passionate about working with children
  • Ability to work with challenging behaviour
