ORTUS RECRUITMENT are working alongside a Primary and Secondary mixed SEN Provision, who are seeking someone who can come in and work 1:1 with an ASD pupil in Year 4. We are looking for someone who has experience working alongside SEN learners and can start immediately, as well as commit to Full time, Long term work.

The Job Role:

• Position: 1:1 ASD Learning Mentor
• Pay: £90 – £100 per day, PAYE – No hidden Agency/Umbrella Company Fees
• Location: Lewisham, Bellingham
• Role: Full time, Long term (Monday – Friday, 08:30 – 16:00)

The school is located in the London Borough of Lewisham, Bellingham, and it is in close proximity to a popular London Underground Station, in addition, there are several bus stops close by which makes commuting easy. The school is Ofsted rated ‘Good’ and they boast a big modern building, which includes a lift, indoor jungle gym, multiple sensory rooms and an enrichment gaming room. Requirements:

• Must have experience working alongside SEN pupils, ideally ASC/ASD
• Must have experience working alongside children in a care, residential, school or social setting
• Be passionate about working alongside SEN pupils, and dedicated to helping them develop life skills such as emotional, mental and social skills
• Have a kind a nurturing nature
• Be patient and resilient, as this role can be challenging
• Will have experience working alongside non-verbal children, and able to adapt ways of communicating with them for example, Makaton and Visual Aids
•  Must be able to start immediately and commit to full time, long term work
• Must have two obtainable relevant childcare references
• Must have a Clear Enhanced Child Workforce DBS on the Update Service or be willing to process one through Ortus Recruitment

Within this role the ideal candidate will be responsible for supporting an ASD pupil on a 1:1 basis. The pupil is in Year 4 but shares a class with 5 other students, between the ages of 6-9, all the other pupils have 1:1’s, so you will be required to support your pupil and assist the teacher and other support staff in maintaining a calm learning environment. You will be required to supervise the pupil whilst they are in therapy sessions or if they need a movement break in lesson. You will need to liaise with the Class Teacher, SENCO, Therapists and Parents/Carers in order to provide feedback about their day as well as the pupils academic progress.
