Ortus Recruitment is working closely with a thriving and inclusive mainstream primary school in Brixton, who are seeking to appoint a compassionate and experienced 1:1 Teaching Assistant to support a child in Year 3 with Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD).

This role is to begin as soon as possible and is ideal for someone who is confident supporting pupils with additional learning needs, particularly within the autism spectrum, and who thrives in a nurturing, structured and positive school environment.

The Role:

• Provide tailored 1:1 support to a Year 3 pupil with ASD
• Implement learning strategies to help the child engage, progress and thrive
• Support the child’s emotional, social and behavioural development
• Encourage independence, build trust, and celebrate small successes
• Work collaboratively with the class teacher and SENCo to ensure consistency and effectiveness in support

The Ideal Candidate Will Have:

• A minimum of 1 year’s experience working with children with special educational needs, ideally ASD
• A solid understanding of ASD and how to adapt approaches to suit individual learning styles
• Experience supporting pupils in both 1:1 and small group settings
• A patient, empathetic and encouraging approach to learning
• Strong communication skills and the ability to work as part of a dedicated team
• A passion for making a positive impact on a child’s learning journey

Requirements:

• Right to work in the UK
• An Enhanced Child DBS on the Update Service (or willingness to apply for one through Ortus Recruitment)
• Strong classroom support skills and a proactive, calm manner
