Ortus Recruitment are working in partnership with a welcoming and inclusive mainstream primary school based in Old Kent Road, who are seeking to appoint an enthusiastic and motivated 1:1 SEN Teaching Assistant to join their team on a full-time, long-term basis. This rewarding opportunity is available for an immediate start and offers full-time working hours from Monday to Friday, 08:30am – 4:00pm.

About the Role:

As a 1:1 SEN Teaching Assistant, you will work closely with a named pupil in either Key Stage 1 or Key Stage 2 who has additional learning needs. These may include a diagnosis of Autism and/or communication difficulties. Your role will involve supporting the child in accessing the curriculum during lessons, assisting with activities they may find challenging, and managing any behaviours that may arise due to their needs. In some instances, learning will take place in a dedicated space outside of the classroom to provide a calmer environment for tailored support.

The Ideal Candidate Will:

• Have previous experience in a school setting, ideally supporting children with special educational needs.
• Be confident in working 1:1 with children with Autism or other communication barriers.
• Be proactive, patient, and adaptable to changing situations throughout the school day.
• Be able to contribute to the planning, differentiation, and assessment of the pupil’s learning alongside the class teacher.
• Have a strong understanding of safeguarding procedures and the ability to follow them diligently.
