Role Overview:

As an ASC Learning Support Assistant, you will play a pivotal role in empowering students with ASC, supporting their academic, social, and emotional development. Working closely with teachers, parents, and fellow professionals, you will ensure that students receive the personalized support needed for success in their educational journey.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Provide one-on-one and small group support, implementing personalized learning plans and strategies.
  • Assist students in accessing the curriculum by adapting materials and resources to meet their specific needs.
  • Contribute to the development and implementation of visual supports and communication systems to enhance understanding and engagement.
  • Cultivate a supportive and inclusive classroom environment, encouraging social interaction and peer relationships.
  • Collaborate with educators and professionals to assess student progress, set goals, and implement targeted interventions.
  • Assist in the development of social skills and self-regulation strategies, fostering independence and self-confidence.
  • Support students during transitions and sensory regulation activities, ensuring a calm and supportive environment.
  • Maintain accurate records and documentation of student progress, behaviour incidents, and support strategies.
  • Collaborate with parents and caregivers, providing regular updates on student progress and offering strategies for reinforcement at home.

Qualifications and Skills:

  • Previous experience as a Learning Support Assistant or in a similar role, preferably with students with ASC.
  • Knowledge and understanding of Autism Spectrum Condition and its impact on learning and behaviour.
  • Familiarity with evidence-based strategies and interventions for supporting students with ASC.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills to establish rapport with students, teachers, and parents.
  • Patience, empathy, and the ability to adapt teaching approaches to meet individual student needs.
  • Knowledge of sensory regulation techniques and strategies.
