ASD/ASC Teaching Assistant

Ortus Recruitment is seeking an experienced Teaching Assistant (SEN TA) to support our partnered specialist school full-time on a long-term basis. Our partnered specialist primary school is based in the Streatham Hill and they intend to invite a candidate with ASD experience for a trial immediately and the position will require and immediate start, as they need extra support in a class with vulnerable children with Autism. If you believe you have necessary experience working with Autism and would like to make a difference in young learners lives, this is the perfect opportunity to work with children with ASD/ASC in a Specialist Primary School environment.

To be considered, applicants must have a strong academic background, experience supporting young people with special needs, specifically Autism (ASD/ASC), and previous support work, TA, or LSA experience within a primary school or related field. A proactive, reliable, and flexible attitude is essential

The role will consist of:

  • Providing one-to-one or small group support to children with ASD/ASC, helping them to access the curriculum and to develop social and communication skills
  • Supporting the teacher in delivering lessons that are appropriate for children with ASD/ASC, using visual aids and other strategies to support their learning
  • Helping to create and maintain a structured and predictable learning environment, which is particularly important for children with ASD/ASC who may struggle with change or uncertainty
  • Supporting children with ASD/ASC in managing their behaviour, using positive behaviour management strategies that are appropriate for their individual needs
  • Working with the teacher to monitor and track the progress of children with ASD/ASC, and to identify areas where additional support may be needed
  • Liaising with parents, carers, and other professionals involved in supporting the child, such as speech and language therapists or occupational therapists, to ensure that their needs are being met both at school and at home
  • Providing regular feedback and reports to the teacher on the progress and development of your key child
  • Ensuring that all necessary paperwork and documentation related to the support of children with ASD/ASC is up to date and accurate, including Individual Education Plans (IEPs) and behaviour support plans.
