ASD Teaching Assistant (Behaviour Specialist)
Location: Mainstream Primary School, London Borough of Lambeth
Contract Type: Full-time (Mon – Fri, 08:30am – 4pm)
Salary: £90 – £105 per day PAYE
Ortus Recruitment is partnering with a respected mainstream primary school in the London Borough of Lambeth to recruit a dedicated ASD Teaching Assistant (Behaviour Specialist). This role involves providing one-to-one support for a student with mild Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD), ensuring they receive the tailored assistance necessary to thrive academically and socially. The ideal candidate will be passionate about supporting children with additional needs and will play a key role in fostering an inclusive, supportive learning environment.
Key Responsibilities:
- 1:1 Support: Provide tailored support for a child with mild ASD, ensuring they engage in learning activities and reach personal and academic goals.
- Resource and Strategy Development: Collaborate with the teaching team to develop appropriate resources, schemes of work, and teaching strategies.
- Progress Monitoring: Provide regular, detailed feedback on the child’s achievement, progress, and needs to the class teacher.
- Supervision: Assist with the supervision of the child during break times, lunch, and other non-lesson periods, ensuring safety and positive social interactions.
- Classroom Support: Help prepare the classroom, assist with the display of work, and maintain classroom resources and equipment.
- Learning Activities: Deliver structured learning activities and adjust them to ensure the child meets their learning objectives.
- Behaviour Support: Promote positive behaviour and inclusion, acting as a role model and encouraging the child to interact with peers and participate in activities.
- Parental Communication: Establish and maintain positive relationships with parents and carers, ensuring the child’s needs are supported at both school and home.
- Administrative Support: Assist with general administrative tasks as required, contributing to the smooth running of the classroom.
Requirements:
- Relevant qualifications or experience working with children with SEND, particularly ASD.
- Basic knowledge of SEND and learning barriers, with an understanding of strategies for working with children with challenging behaviours.
- Experience working with young people in an educational or training environment.
- Ability to establish and maintain positive working relationships with colleagues, students, and parents.
- Strong organisational skills and the ability to manage your own workload effectively.
- Understanding of health and safety procedures in a school setting.
