Autism Support Teaching Assistant

Ortus Recruitment is working in partnership with a welcoming and well-resourced mainstream primary school in Kingston, seeking a dedicated Teaching Assistant to join their team following the upcoming half-term break. This is a fantastic opportunity to play a key role in supporting a small group of children in Year 3, helping them access learning, build confidence, and thrive both socially and academically.
Role Overview:
- Position: Autism Support Teaching Assistant
- Location: Kingston
- Start Date: After October half-term
- Contract: Full-time, long-term (until the end of the academic year)
- Hours: Monday to Friday, during school hours
- Daily Rate: £89 – £105 per day (PAYE), depending on experience
Key Responsibilities:
- Provide targeted support to a small group of pupils with Autism, both within the classroom and through small group sessions
- Assist in planning and delivering tailored interventions to support individual needs
- Help adapt classroom resources and tasks to ensure accessibility for all pupils
- Support children’s emotional and social development alongside their academic progress
- Work closely with class teachers, the SENCO, and families to provide consistent, effective support
The Ideal Candidate Will Have:
- Experience supporting children with Autism, ideally within a primary school setting
- A calm, patient, and empathetic approach to supporting learning and behaviour
- Strong communication and teamwork skills
- A Level 2/3 Teaching Assistant qualification or equivalent (desirable but not essential)
- Confidence in delivering small group interventions and supporting pupils’ progress
