Behaviour Mentor
Ortus Recruitment is working in partnership with a well-regarded primary school in Crystal Palace, seeking a Behaviour Mentor to join their team and provide dedicated 1:1 support for a pupil with behavioural and social-emotional needs.
This is a fantastic opportunity for someone with experience supporting children or young people who require additional guidance to access education in a safe, structured, and supportive environment.
Ideal Experience (Not Limited To):
- Behaviour Mentor or Learning Mentor
- SEN or SEMH Support Assistant
- Youth Work or Pastoral Support
- Sports Coaching or Play Leadership
- Learning Support Assistant roles with behavioural needs focus
Whether you come from an education background or have worked with young people in community, coaching, or support settings, this role offers a meaningful way to apply your experience in a primary school setting while gaining further training and professional development.
Key Responsibilities:
- Provide one-to-one support to a primary-aged pupil with significant behavioural and emotional needs.
- Work closely with class teachers, SENCO, and other staff to implement support strategies and behaviour plans.
- Support the pupil’s access to learning, helping manage transitions and minimise disruption in the classroom.
- Build strong, positive relationships with the pupil to foster trust, engagement, and self-regulation.
- Use de-escalation techniques and consistent behaviour management strategies to support emotional regulation.
- Encourage positive behaviour and celebrate small successes to support long-term development.
What We’re Looking For:
- Someone confident, empathetic, and resilient with a calm but firm approach.
- Previous experience supporting children with challenging behaviour or social, emotional, and mental health (SEMH) needs.
- An understanding of behaviour theory and strategies for managing difficult behaviours.
- Ability to stay patient and professional under pressure.
- A team player who is able to collaborate effectively with staff and families.
- Enhanced DBS on the Update Service (or willingness to apply for one).
