Behaviour Mentor
Ortus Recruitment is on the lookout for a dedicated and passionate Behaviour Mentor to join an Alternative Provision in Kennington, within the London Borough of Lambeth. In this vital role, you will provide crucial guidance and support to students in various educational settings, managing their behaviour on a day-to-day basis and offering pastoral support. Your key responsibility will be to mentor students, fostering their academic, social, and personal development.
Requirements:
- Proven experience working with students with SEN, disabilities, and challenging behaviour.
- High expectations for student achievements and a commitment to maintaining excellent standards.
- Patience and skill to provide 1:1 support effectively.
- Enthusiastic and energetic, with a commitment to making learning engaging and exciting.
- Strong teamwork abilities as well as the capacity to work independently.
- Creative approach to teaching and curriculum delivery.
- Excellent communication skills with both children and adults.
- Ability to obtain an Enhanced DBS or possess a current DBS certificate on the update service.
- Previous experience working with children.
Key Responsibilities:
- Provide 1:1 support through reflective and restorative practices.
- Maintain detailed records of individual students, including communication logs and risk assessments.
- Offer personalized mentoring to discuss students’ emotional and social behaviour progress.
- Monitor and track behavioural progress, sharing data and insights with the SENDCo and other relevant professionals.
- Collaborate with teachers, support staff, families, and external agencies to develop solution-focused approaches that help students regulate their behaviour and achieve progress.
- Build positive relationships with students, catering to their individual needs.
- Assist in the development, implementation, and review of Individual Behaviour Plans and Risk Assessments.
- Promote the inclusion and acceptance of all students.
- Set high expectations and foster self-esteem and independence in students.
- Encourage students to develop resilience and independence, both academically and socially.
- Promote good behaviour, promptly addressing conflicts and incidents in line with school policies, and teaching students to take responsibility for their actions.
- Adhere to policies and procedures regarding child protection, health, safety, security, confidentiality, and data protection, reporting concerns appropriately.
- Challenge incidents of racism, bullying, harassment, victimisation, and any form of discrimination, ensuring compliance with school policies and procedures.
- Participate in relevant meetings and assist with student supervision during out-of-lesson times, including before and after school and at lunchtime.
- Join staff and students on visits, trips, and out-of-school activities as needed.
