Behaviour Mentor – SEN Specialist School

The School:
Our partner school is a warm, inclusive SEN setting that supports pupils with a variety of additional needs, including Autism (ASC), Moderate Learning Difficulties (MLD), and Social, Emotional and Mental Health (SEMH) needs. The school is committed to providing a nurturing and motivating environment where every young person is encouraged to grow socially, emotionally, and academically.

Key Responsibilities
• Provide targeted behaviour support to pupils individually or in small groups, following strategies outlined in their EHCPs.
• Work closely with teachers and support staff to help deliver structured, accessible, and purposeful activities.
• Encourage positive behaviours, resilience, and emotional regulation in pupils.
• Use de-escalation techniques to manage challenging behaviour calmly and safely.
• Support the wider school community by assisting with enrichment, sensory sessions, and wellbeing-focused activities.

Requirements
• Experience supporting children or young people with SEN / behavioural or emotional needs (in school, youth work, or care settings).
• Strong communication skills and the ability to work collaboratively with a multidisciplinary team.
• A calm, patient, and empathetic approach, with the ability to adapt to different situations.
• A valid DBS on the Update Service (or willingness to apply).
• A Safeguarding Certificate (or willingness to complete one through us).
Desirable: Training or experience in PECS, Makaton, Team Teach, or other behaviour support approaches.
