Behaviour Support Assistant | SEMH | Behavioural Unit | Mainstream Primary School

Here at Ortus Recruitment we are seeking someone to join a Behavioural Unit within a Mainstream Primary School, on a full time, long term basis. We are looking for someone who has experience managing challenging behaviour, either in a school based and/or social setting (sports coaching, activity camps).

The Job Role:

  • Position: Behaviour Support Assistant (SEMH)
  • Pay: £85 – £100 per day (PAYE, No hidden Agency/Umbrella Company fees)
  • Location: Southwark, Dulwich
  • Role: Full time, Long term (Monday – Friday, 08:30 – 16:00)

The school is located in the heart of Southwark, Dulwich. They managed to receive an Ofsted rating ‘Outstanding’ in their last inspection. The school is easy to commute to, with it being located close to a London Underground Station, as well as being surrounded by several bus stops. They have a close tight knit staff team, who are warm and welcoming to new staff. The school has a fantastic working environment and have an inclusive and diverse approach to teaching their pupils, resulting in great academic success, along with an engaging learning environment.

The ideal candidate for this role would be someone who has worked alongside children before, ideally in a school setting (transferrable skills welcome). The ideal candidate will be passionate about working with children and dedicated to ensuring they are receiving the necessary support. The ideal candidate will need to be patient and resilient, able to think quick on their feet and have good problem solving skills. Having a strong academic background is desired but not essential, we would like someone who is confident in leading 1:1 and small group interventions, to work closely with pupils who require additional support in core subjects.

The main responsibilities in this role will be to join a behaviour inclusion team who work within a behavioural unit within a Mainstream Primary School and support pupils with challenging behaviour. You will be supporting pupils between Year 4 – Year 6, and helping them to engage with learning in smaller groups. You will also be required to escort and support them in some mainstream lessons, trying to integrate them full time back into mainstream. You will need to liaise with the Class Teacher and the SENCO in order to ensure the pupils you are supporting are receiving the necessary support. You will need to provide feedback on the pupils academic and behavioural progress to their Parents/Carers.
