Ortus Recruitment is partnering with a range of welcoming primary schools across South London, both mainstream and specialist SEN settings to find a compassionate and adaptable Classroom Assistant to join their support teams.

This is a fantastic opportunity for someone who thrives in a child-centred environment and is committed to making a real difference in pupils’ everyday learning and development. You will work closely with class teachers and to deliver meaningful support to children with a variety of needs.

Key Responsibilities

• Supporting pupils on a 1:1 basis or in small groups under the direction of the class teacher

• Assisting children with learning activities and helping to adapt resources where needed

• Supporting pupils with special educational needs, including communication, physical, or learning difficulties

• Providing personal care support IF required (e.g. toileting, feeding, or mobility assistance), carried out with dignity and respect

• Helping to create a calm, inclusive, and structured classroom environment

• Building positive, trusting relationships with pupils to support their confidence and engagement

• Liaising with teachers, parents, and external professionals as needed

Candidate Profile

We are looking for a kind, patient, and dedicated individual who is flexible across both mainstream and SEN primary settings.

The ideal candidate will:

• Have experience working with primary-aged children in a school, childcare, or support setting

• Be open and willing to work in both mainstream and specialist SEN schools

• Be comfortable providing personal care when required, in a professional and sensitive manner

• Understand (or genuine interest in) special educational needs, including ASD, ADHD, SEMH.

• Possess strong communication skills and the ability to build rapport with pupils and staff

• Be reliable, adaptable, and calm under pressure

• Hold (or be willing to obtain) a valid Enhanced DBS certificate
