EYFS Teaching Assistant
Ortus Recruitment are proud to be working in partnership with a welcoming, mainstream primary school in Vauxhall who are seeking a patient, nurturing EYFS Teaching Assistant to provide dedicated 1:1 support for a child in Early Years with emerging additional needs. This is a full-time role within a supportive Early Years setting, ideal for someone passionate about inclusive education and early development.
The Role
You will provide calm, consistent, and child-centred 1:1 support to help a young child feel safe, understood, and able to access learning. The child presents with:
- Social communication differences
- Language delay
- Sensory processing needs
Working closely with the class teacher, SENCo, and external professionals (including Speech & Language and Occupational Therapy), you will play a key role in implementing tailored strategies to support communication, regulation, and engagement.
Key Responsibilities
- Provide consistent 1:1 support throughout the school day
- Support communication development using strategies from the class team and Speech & Language professionals
- Implement a personalised Occupational Therapy programme to support sensory and emotional regulation
- Use visual supports, routines, and sensory strategies to aid transitions
- Deliver play-based, practical, and sensory-informed learning approaches
- Take a reflective and curious approach to behaviour, identifying and removing barriers to learning
- Encourage independence, confidence, and positive peer interactions
- Support the child during swimming sessions
- Promote outdoor learning and movement opportunities
- Respond warmly to the child’s affectionate nature while maintaining professional boundaries
- Work collaboratively with the class teacher and SENCo to monitor and support progress
The Ideal Candidate
- Has experience supporting children in EYFS or with additional needs (SEN experience desirable)
- Is calm, patient, nurturing, and adaptable
- Understands or is willing to learn about sensory processing and communication strategies
- Can maintain high expectations while being responsive in the moment
- Is reflective and proactive in supporting behaviour and regulation
- Works well as part of a team
- Is available with a maximum 1 week notice period
