Graduate Learning Support Assistant

Ortus Recruitment is seeking a bright, ambitious, and empathetic individual to join a strong primary school in Clapham, London as a Graduate Learning Support Assistant. This role is perfect for graduates with a background in Psychology, Therapy, or Education Studies, who are looking to gain hands-on experience working with children in a supportive, inclusive setting.

The Headteacher has specifically requested a proactive and enthusiastic individual to provide 1:1 and small group support, assisting in the development of students’ academic, social, and emotional skills, with a particular focus on KS1 and KS2. The role is ideal for those looking to further their career in psychology or therapy, with direct exposure to Special Educational Needs (SEN), including Autism, ADHD, and Social, Emotional and Mental Health (SEMH) needs.

Key Responsibilities:

  • 1:1 and small group support for children with Special Educational Needs, including Autism, ADHD, and Behavioural Needs.
  • Providing social, emotional, and mental health (SEMH) support to students, helping them manage their emotions and develop key life skills.
  • Offering cognitive support to help students improve their academic performance and self-confidence.
  • Liaising with the SENCO, as well as parents and carers, to track progress and tailor interventions.
  • Using your observational skills to monitor student progress and assist with assessments.

  • Full-time, term-time position (Monday to Friday, 8:30 am – 4:00 pm) for the 2024/2025 academic year.
  • Competitive daily pay rate of £85-£110, paid weekly via PAYE (based on experience and qualifications).

Ideal Candidate:

  • Degree in Psychology, Therapy, Education Studies, or a similar field. (Other qualifications such as A-Levels or BTEC will also be considered.)
  • A passion for working with children and supporting their academic, social, and emotional development.
  • Previous experience working with children, whether in a personal or professional capacity, is desirable but not essential.
  • Strong communication skills and the ability to work effectively as part of a team.
  • A proactive and enthusiastic attitude with a commitment to making a meaningful difference in the lives of children.
