Pay: £89–£105 per day

Ortus Recruitment is seeking a Key Stage 1 Classroom Assistant to support the head teacher and pupils within a primary school setting in Lewisham. The role focuses on supporting children’s learning and development, and we are looking for someone with previous experience working with young children in a primary or nursery environment.

Role Responsibilities

• Teaching support: Assist teachers with planning and delivering learning activities and provide feedback on pupil progress
• Pupil support: Work with individual pupils and small groups, including supporting children with special educational needs
• Classroom preparation: Help set up learning materials and maintain a tidy, organised classroom environment
• Administrative duties: Carry out tasks such as photocopying, filing, and displaying pupils’ work
• Parental communication: Build positive relationships with parents and maintain regular communication regarding pupils’ needs and progress
• Health and safety: Monitor health and safety procedures, ensure equipment is used and stored correctly, and ensure pupils are cared for appropriately
• Wellbeing and inclusion: Promote a safe, inclusive, and supportive classroom environment that supports pupils’ wellbeing
• Lunchtime and play support: Assist during lunchtime and supervise pupils during play activities

Requirements

• A strong commitment to supporting children’s emotional, social, and mental wellbeing
• Face-to-face experience working with SEN pupils
• Previous experience working with children in a classroom setting
• Willingness to work with Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS) pupils
• A patient, caring, and dedicated approach to supporting children
