Learning Difficulties Teaching Assistant
Ortus Recruitment is delighted to partner with a highly regarded mainstream primary school in Wandsworth to recruit a Learning Difficulties Teaching Assistant starting January 2026. This role is perfect for a caring, motivated, and committed individual who wants to make a real difference supporting children with additional learning needs.
Role Overview
You will work closely with teachers and support staff to provide 1:1 or small group support for pupils with special educational needs, including autism, ADHD, language difficulties, and behavioural challenges. You will help pupils access the curriculum, develop confidence, and participate fully in school life.
Key Responsibilities
- Support teachers in planning and delivering engaging lessons
- Assist pupils individually or in small groups, both in and outside the classroom
- Adapt resources and activities to meet the specific needs of pupils with learning difficulties
- Support positive behaviour and encourage pupil engagement with learning
- Prepare classrooms and materials for lessons
- Contribute to monitoring and recording pupil progress and feedback
- Work collaboratively with the teacher and SENCO to implement personalised learning plans
What We Are Looking For
- Experience working with children, preferably with SEND or learning difficulties
- Enthusiasm, patience, and a genuine passion for supporting children’s learning and development
- Strong communication skills and the ability to work as part of a team
- Reliable, professional, and flexible approach to work
- Up-to-date Enhanced DBS (or willingness to obtain one)
- Ability to provide references and CV outlining relevant experience
