Learning Support Assistant
Ortus Recruitment is working in close partnership with a well-regarded mainstream primary school based in Clapham to recruit a dedicated Learning Support Assistant to support a Year 3 pupil with specific SEND needs, who has been awarded an Education, Health and Care Plan (EHCP). This is a fantastic opportunity to make a real difference in a child’s educational journey, while working as part of a supportive, forward-thinking, and passionate team.
The school places a strong focus on the holistic development of every child, encouraging curiosity, creativity, and a love of learning and are seeking a compassionate and motivated Learning Support Assistant to provide tailored 1:1 support for a Year 3 pupil with additional needs. This role will involve working closely with class teachers, SENCOs, and parents to ensure the pupil is engaged, supported, and able to access the curriculum effectively.
Key Responsibilities:
- Provide individualised support to a specific Year 3 pupil in line with their EHCP targets
- Work collaboratively with teaching staff and SEN professionals to implement learning and behavioural strategies
- Foster a positive and inclusive learning environment
- Develop strong, trusting relationships with both the pupil and their parents/carers
- Support classroom activities and contribute to wider Junior Prep team efforts when needed
- Adapt flexibly to the needs of the child and classroom
- Maintain accurate and confidential records of progress and support
The Ideal Candidate Will:
- Be passionate about working with children and supporting those with SEND
- Possess excellent interpersonal and communication skills
- Be patient, adaptable and empathetic
- Have good written and spoken English
- Be reliable, organised, and able to work both independently and as part of a team
- Ideally have prior experience supporting children in a school or educational setting (though this is not essential)
- Be committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children.
