Primary School SEN Teaching Assistant

Ortus Recruitment is excited to be working with a dynamic and inclusive primary school in Wandsworth to find a compassionate and skilled Teaching Assistant with experience in supporting students with Special Educational Needs (SEN). This is an excellent opportunity for an individual who is passionate about creating a positive impact on the educational experience of children with additional needs.

Your Role:

As an SEN Teaching Assistant, you will work closely with the class teacher and other staff members to ensure that students with SEN receive the support they need to thrive academically and socially. Your day-to-day duties will include:

  • Provide one-to-one assistance to students with SEN, helping them access the curriculum and supporting their emotional and social development.
  • Assist in the creation, implementation, and review of Individual Education Plans (IEPs) to ensure that each student’s unique needs are being met effectively.
  • Work alongside the class teacher to facilitate an engaging and inclusive learning environment, ensuring students with SEN can participate fully in all activities.
  • Work as part of a team with teachers, parents, and external professionals to create a nurturing and supportive atmosphere for all students.
  • Monitor the academic and personal progress of students, documenting achievements and challenges, and providing feedback to the teaching team.

What We’re Looking For:

  • Prior experience supporting children with Special Educational Needs, particularly in a school setting, is highly valued.
  • Level 1/2/3 Teaching Assistant or Childcare qualifications are preferred.
  • Excellent communication skills, with the ability to build strong, trusting relationships with students, staff, and parents.
  • A patient, empathetic approach with a genuine desire to support children with diverse learning needs and backgrounds.
  • A proactive and adaptable mindset, with the ability to respond to changing needs and situations in the classroom.
