Here at Ortus Recruitment, we are working with a Primary and Secondary school, SEN Provision. This provision is located in the London Borough of Lewisham and are seeking an experienced Behaviour Mentor to join their ranks and work 1:1 with an SEMH pupil in year 5. The provision is Ofsted rated ‘Good’ and follow a semi formal curriculum. Their curriculum is very much made up of Enrichment and Sensory activities as opposed to working all day. This school prioritises the pupils comfort and focuses on helping them develop life skills such as social, emotional and mental skills.
The Job Role:
- Position: SEMH Behaviour Mentor
- Pay: £90 – £100 per day, PAYE – No hidden Agency/Umbrella Company fees
- Location: Blackheath
- Role: Full time, Long term (Monday – Friday, 08:30 – 16:00)
The Ideal Candidate:
- Will be able to display patience and resilience as this role can become quite challenging
- Will be able to follow instructions from the Class Teacher effectively but also be able to work off of their own initiative
- Will have experience managing challenging behaviour and/or working alongside vulnerable adults/young people
- Will be able to reliably commute to Blackheath
- Will be able to commit to Full time, Long term work
- Will be passionate about supporting children with special educational needs
- Will have a kind and nurturing nature
- Will have two obtainable references
- Will have a Clear Enhanced Child Workforce DBS on the Update Service or be willing to process one through Ortus Recruitment – £52
Main Responsibilities:
- You will be required to work 1:1 with an SEMH pupil in Year 5
- You will be responsible for assisting the pupil with their work and helping them engage in learning where possible
- You will be required to supervise the pupil in therapy sessions with designated school professionals
- You will need to liaise with the Class Teacher, SENCO and the parents/carers to give feedback on pupil progress and to ensure the learner is getting the necessary support they need
- You will be required to take the pupil on movement breaks around the school building when they are becoming heightened
- You will be required to help aid the development of life skills such as emotional, social and mental skills
- You will be responsible for taking the pupil to enrichment and sensory activities as a reward for good behaviour
