Here at Ortus Recruitment we are working with a Specialist School who support pupils with ASD, SLD and SEMH, you will be tasked with assisting the Class Teachers with managing challenging behaviour and working closely with the pupils who have SEMH (Social Emotional Mental Health). The school is Ofsted rated ‘Good’ and have a close knit staff team, the school holds staff wellbeing meetings fortnightly to maintain the positive working relationship amongst staff.

The Job Information:

• Position: SEN Mentor
• Pay: £90 – £105 per day, PAYE – No hidden agency/umbrella company fees
• Location: Deptford
• Role: Full time, Long term Monday – Friday (08:30 – 16:00)

Your responsibilities within this role are to assist the Class Teacher in a KS3 class with children between the ages of 11 – 13, working closely with the pupils who have SEMH, helping to manage their behaviour and encourage them to engage in learning. You will need to use enrichment activities as an incentive to encourage them to complete their work and remain calm in lessons. You will be required to escort the pupil on movement breaks where necessary and needed. You will need to liaise with the in school professionals (occupational therapist), the SENCO, the Class Teacher and the parents/carers to provide feedback on pupil progress, specifically their academic and behavioural progress. You will need to be patient and resilient, and be able to come in and easily build a positive rapport with both staff and students.

The requirements:

• Must have experience challenging managing behaviour or experience supporting people with Special Educational Needs, and/or working with vulnerable adults/young people
• Must be patient and resilient, able to think quick on your feet and have excellent problem solving skills
• You need to be passionate about working with children and dedicated to aiding their overall development
• You need to be able to start immediately, and commit to full time, long term work
• You must have TWO obtainable relevant references
• You must have a clear Enhanced Child Workforce DBS on the update service or be willing to process one through Ortus Recruitment – £52
