SEN Teaching Assistant

We are currently recruiting for a 1:1 SEN Teaching Assistant to join the team in a mainstream primary school in the London Borough of Camden.

Summary:
The ideal candidate for this role will have prior experience of supporting SEN children and most importantly a passion for it. You will need to be able to build positive rapports with the children, provide an inclusive and safe environment for them to learn and effectively communicate with staff members, external practitioners and parents/carers. You will need to work on a 1:1 basis with SEN children as well as leading interventions in small groups to raise attainment. It is important to be patient and empathetic in order to build successful and positive rapports with the students.
You will be primarily responsible for working with children that either have a diagnosis or show signs of ASD. You will need to build positive rapports with the children and aid in their emotional, social and academic development. This will all be done alongside the Special Educational Needs Co-ordinator, who will offer support and training when necessary. The 1:1 SEN Teaching Assistant responsibilities will include, but not limited to:
- Develop a tailored and creative program suitable for SEN children
- Employ a variety of educational techniques (storytelling, educational play, etc.) to teach SEN children
- Observe each child to help them improve their social competencies and build self-esteem
- Encourage SEN children to interact with each other and resolve occasional conflicts
- Guide children to develop their artistic and practical capabilities through a carefully constructed curriculum (identify shapes, numbers or colours, do crafts etc.)
- Track children’s progress and report to parents
- Collaborate with other educators
- Maintain a clean and tidy classroom consistent with health and safety standards
