SEN Teaching Assistant

We are seeking a compassionate and motivated SEN Teaching Assistant to join our supportive and inclusive partnered mainstream primary school in Clapham. As an SEN Teaching Assistant, you will play a crucial role in providing tailored support to students with mild or severe Special Educational Needs (SEN), ensuring they have access to a high-quality education in an environment that promotes their growth and development.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Support individual students or small groups with a variety of SEN conditions, including mild and severe needs.
  • Assist with classroom activities, helping students to engage in lessons and complete tasks.
  • Foster positive relationships with pupils, promoting their independence, confidence, and social skills.
  • Provide personal care support where necessary, in line with the pupils’ needs.
  • Work closely with class teachers and other professionals to develop and implement Individual Education Plans (IEPs).
  • Ensure that pupils can access the curriculum, adapting materials and tasks to suit their learning needs.
  • Support students’ emotional and behavioural needs, helping them to navigate challenges and stay engaged in their learning.
  • Attend training and development sessions to continuously improve your skills and knowledge of SEN.

The Ideal Candidate Will Have:

  • A genuine passion for supporting children with Special Educational Needs.
  • A flexible and adaptable approach to working with pupils with varying needs, both mild and severe.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to build strong, trusting relationships with students and staff.
  • Previous experience working with children with SEN is desirable but not essential.
  • Patience, empathy, and resilience to support students through their learning and personal challenges.
  • A commitment to creating a positive and inclusive environment for all pupils.
  • Willingness to undertake relevant training and further professional development.
