Ortus Recruitment is delighted to be supporting a well-regarded mainstream primary school in Putney in their search for a dedicated and experienced SEN Teaching Assistant to join their team on a full-time, long-term basis, starting immediately. This is a rewarding opportunity to become part of a school that takes a truly inclusive approach to education, ensuring every pupil receives the support and encouragement they need to thrive. The successful candidate will work closely with a pupil with non-verbal autism.

Role Details:

• Location: Putney, SW London
• Start Date: Immediate
• Contract: Full-time, long-term
• Hours: Monday to Friday, 8:30am – 4:00pm
• Daily Rate: £89 – £105 per day PAYE (depending on experience)

About the role:

You’ll work alongside the class teacher and SENCo, offering targeted support to pupils across Years 3–6 in both 1:1 and small group settings. This is an ideal role for someone who is confident, calm under pressure, and able to adapt their approach to meet individual learning and emotional needs.

This school also works closely with external professionals including speech and language therapists, educational psychologists and behavioural specialists, ensuring a collaborative, child-centred environment.

The ideal candidate will have:

• Experience supporting children with ASD, communication difficulties or complex needs
• The ability to build strong, positive relationships with pupils and staff
• A calm, empathetic approach to managing challenging behaviour
• Strong communication and organisation skills
• A valid, enhanced DBS registered on the Update Service (or be willing to apply for one)
• Previous experience in a primary or SEN school setting is highly desirable

Key responsibilities:

• Supporting pupils to access learning, both in class and during intervention sessions
• Helping implement Individual Education Plan and personal targets
• Assisting the teacher with classroom management and differentiated activities
• Creating a safe, nurturing space where children feel valued and encouraged
• Liaising with professionals and contributing to progress reviews
