SEN Teaching Assistant
Ortus Recruitment is currently working in partnership with a welcoming and inclusive mainstream primary school based in Streatham, who are seeking a dedicated and enthusiastic Teaching Assistant with SEN experience to join their supportive team on a full-time basis.
This is a fantastic opportunity to make a meaningful difference by providing 1:1 support to a pupil in Year 4 with Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) and Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD). The pupil is not boisterous but requires structured support and consistency to thrive in the classroom environment.
About the Role:
The successful candidate will work closely with the class teacher and SENCo to provide tailored support for the identified pupil, helping them access the curriculum and fully engage in school life. This role offers a rewarding opportunity to build a strong, supportive relationship with the pupil and play a key role in their academic and personal development.
Key Responsibilities:
- Provide 1:1 support to a Year 4 pupil with ASD and ADHD, focusing on emotional regulation, engagement, and learning.
- Assist the class teacher in planning and delivering differentiated activities to meet the pupil’s individual needs.
- Help to implement and monitor specific strategies and interventions outlined in the pupil’s support plan.
- Promote positive behaviour and emotional well-being in line with the school’s values and policies.
- Support the pupil’s social development and interactions with peers.
- Maintain regular communication with the class teacher, SENCo, and parents/carers regarding progress and areas of concern.
The Ideal Candidate Will Have:
- Previous experience working with children with SEN, particularly ASD and/or ADHD.
- A patient, empathetic, and consistent approach to supporting pupils with additional needs.
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills.
- A proactive, team-oriented attitude with a genuine passion for helping children succeed.
- A Level 2 qualification in Supporting Teaching and Learning (or equivalent) is desirable.
