SEN Teaching Assistant

Ortus Recruitment is working closely with a friendly, community-focused mainstream primary school in Southfields that is seeking a dedicated SEN Teaching Assistant to provide 1:1 support for a KS1 pupil with autism and ADHD. This is a full-time, long-term position starting immediately and is ideal for someone who understands the importance of consistency, emotional regulation, and building strong, trusting relationships with children who need extra support.

About the Role

You will be a key figure in the child’s school day, helping them feel settled, understood, and able to engage with learning at their own pace.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Provide tailored 1:1 support for a KS1 pupil with autism and ADHD
  • Work collaboratively with the class teacher and SENCO to adapt learning activities
  • Use clear routines and positive strategies to support focus and emotional regulation
  • Help the pupil access the curriculum and develop independence
  • Support social interaction, confidence, and self-esteem
  • Be an active and valued member of the wider school support team

The Ideal Candidate

  • Previous experience supporting children with autism and ADHD (school experience preferred)
  • A calm, patient, and consistent approach to behaviour and emotional needs
  • Strong understanding of sensory processing and trust-building strategies
  • Confident communicator who works well as part of a team
  • Proactive, reliable, and genuinely passionate about SEN support
