Ortus Recruitment is seeking a SEN Teaching Assistant to join a warm, inclusive primary school in Nunhead, committed to supporting both the personal and academic development of its pupils.


About the Role:

As a SEN Teaching Assistant, you’ll play a vital role in supporting children with diverse needs, helping them learn, grow, and feel empowered every day.

You will:

  • Work 1:1 and in small groups with pupils requiring extra support.
  • Deliver tailored support to students with a range of needs, including autism, speech and language challenges, and social, emotional and mental health (SEMH) difficulties.
  • Assist teachers in preparing and delivering creative, engaging lessons.
  • Set up and organise classroom resources and learning spaces.
  • Build strong, positive relationships with students, staff, and parents.
  • Support students with personal development through structured routines, play, and communication.
  • Foster a safe, respectful and inclusive learning environment where every child feels heard.

  • Experience working with children, ideally with SEN experience.
  • A genuine passion for education and helping children overcome learning barriers.
  • Empathy, patience, and the ability to adapt to different behaviours and learning styles.
  • Excellent communication and teamwork skills.
  • A proactive, positive attitude and willingness to go the extra mile.
