SEN Teaching Assistant
Ortus Recruitment are proud to be working with a nurturing specialist provision in Brixton who are seeking a caring, attentive and reliable SEN Teaching Assistant to provide dedicated 1:1 support to a young pupil with additional needs. This is a fantastic opportunity for a proactive individual who can hit the ground running and make an immediate impact within a supportive and child-centred environment.
The Role
You will work closely with the class teacher, SENCo and wider team to support a named pupil’s:
- Learning and curriculum access
- Communication development
- Social and emotional growth
- Inclusion within the classroom and school community
The successful candidate will provide consistent, structured support throughout the school day, helping the pupil feel safe, understood and able to thrive.
Key Responsibilities
- Provide dedicated 1:1 support throughout the school day
- Adapt learning activities to meet individual needs
- Use appropriate strategies to support communication and engagement
- Promote emotional regulation and positive behaviour
- Encourage independence, confidence and participation
- Support transitions, playtimes and daily routines
- Work collaboratively with teaching staff and external professionals
- Observe, record and feedback on progress and development
- Uphold safeguarding and school policies at all times
The Ideal Candidate
- Has experience supporting children with SEN (essential)
- Is warm, patient, calm and empathetic
- Has strong observational skills and attention to detail
- Is reliable, consistent and professional
- Can follow guidance while using initiative
- Communicates effectively and works well within a team
- Is available with a maximum 1 week notice period
Desirable (Not Essential)
- Level 2 or 3 Teaching Assistant qualification (or equivalent)
- SEN-specific training
- Experience within an early years or specialist setting
- Understanding of inclusive and differentiated learning practices
