Here at Ortus Recruitment, we are seeking an experienced SEN Teaching Assistant to join one of our SEN Provisions (Secondary School) located in the London Borough of Southwark, Bermondsey. The school have recently managed to maintain their Ofsted rating of ‘Outstanding’ due to their positive working environment amongst staff and their unmatched support of the pupils.
This school doesn’t follow the standard British curriculum, instead they have an adapted version which suits their learners needs and includes sensory activities, enrichment activities and therapeutic sessions to ensure they are getting the necessary support. The main aim is to help the pupils develop life skills such as social, emotional and mental skills as well as giving them a comfortable and supported start to life.
The Job Role:
- Position SEN Teaching Assistant
- Pay: £90 – £100 per day, PAYE
- Location: Southwark, Bermondsey
- Role: Full time, Long term (Monday – Friday, 08:30 – 16:00).
The ideal candidate:
- Must have experience working alongside children with special educational needs (experience in care with vulnerable adults/young people is also welcome).
- Must be able to start immediately and commit to full time, long term work. The role is set to continue into the next academic year if the feedback is positive.
- Must be passionate about working alongside children with SEN and dedicated to giving them to best start to life as possible
- Must be patient and resilient as this role can be challenging
- Must have a strong academic background, educated to degree level or equivalent (desired, not essential)
- Must be able to reliably commute to Bermondsey, or be willing to relocate
- Must have a clear Enhanced Child Workforce DBS on the Update Service or be willing to process one through Ortus Recruitment (£52)
Within this role the successful candidate will be required to support a class of 8 children ranging from the ages of 11 – 14. Within this class the needs are ASD, ADHD and SEMH. You will be tasked with assisting the Class Teacher and other Teaching Assistants with supporting the pupils as a whole class, and at times be willing and confident enough to work 1:1. You will be required to supervise pupils in their sessions with professionals (Speech and Language therapists) and ensure calm behaviour and a positive attitude to learning where possible. You will be required to liaise with the Class Teacher, the SENCO and the Parents/Carers and provide feedback on the pupils day and to ensure they are getting the necessary support.
