A specialist autism school in Thornton Heath is seeking a dedicated Teaching Assistant to support their pupils’ academic, social, and emotional development. This is a rewarding role for someone passionate about inclusion and making a difference in the lives of children with Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD).
The Role:
You will work closely with teachers and therapists to create a safe and supportive environment tailored to each child’s unique needs.
Key Responsibilities:
- Provide individualised support to pupils with ASD in small group or one-on-one settings.
- Use strategies such as TEACCH, PECs, and Makaton to aid communication and learning.
- Assist with sensory regulation activities and manage transitions effectively.
- Promote social skills, independence, and positive interactions among pupils.
- Maintain accurate records and contribute to personalised learning plans.
About You:
- Experience working with children with ASD or other additional needs.
- Knowledge of autism-friendly strategies and approaches.
- Patience, creativity, and a proactive attitude to problem-solving.
- Ability to build positive and trusting relationships with pupils and staff.
